THE BASICS
The Industrial Revolution took place from 1750-1950. It began in Great Britain because of their great wealth and power. Britain obtained their wealth through their raw material products and agriculture. The Industrial Revolution was a time where people switched from agriculture to industry. Many new job opportunities and inventions were created within industry. As new machines were built, many other countries soon caught on to what was happening around them and obtained these new ideas, machinery, and natural resources. There was also a big boom in population along with new technology and market fueled by natural resources such as coal and iron.

SOCIETY
The social classes were separated by upper class, middle class, and lower class. The lower class, or working class, lived in small cottages and small neighborhoods where they were mistreated. The middle class lived in average neighborhoods while upper class lived in small mansions. Social problems occurred because of population increase. There were more workers which caused poor working conditions. Factories destroyed the rural life, changing the economy and causing major disturbances and pollution to the environment. The Industrial Revolution impacted society and caused a change to more of a rural life in the factories.

FACTORIES
The factory systems increased work-related injuries and spread diseases. Most people in England had jobs in manufacturing. The United States had factories, but they were built later than the British factories. Workers in the factories worked long hours in dirty and unsafe conditions. In fact, many workers died from being overworked or from burning machinery. The two major sources of power in the Industrial Revolution were coal and steam power. In the domestic system, people worked out of their homes. They mostly farmed and raised cattle. People worked in factories in the factory system.
GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS
The Industrial Revolution created a stable and prosperous economy, which kept people content. It changed peoples way of earn a living, methods of manufacturing, and products. The government sold large amounts of land which supported many factories with government contracts and that put even more money back into government. Capitalism, socialism and communism were ideologies that came about during the Industrial Revolution. Capitalism is a economic and political system where a country's trade and industry are controlled by a private owner for profit, rather than by state. Socialism is a theory that production, distribution, and exchange should be controlled by the community. Socialism helped create union labor laws which stopped child labor and saved the working class from extreme levels of hard labor. Communism is a form of government which seeks to abolish private ownership and create a classless society. During the Industrial Revolution, ideas of Socialism inspired Karl Marx to create Communism.
IMPACTS AND CHANGES IN THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION
The Industrial Revolution was a time of invention. Inventions changed the world from old ways to new ways. It encouraged humanism which caused people to turn from religion and focus more on science. Steam engines, electricity, photography, telegraph, introduction of stocks, new machinery, tools, watering methods, and fertilizers were invented in the Industrial Revolution. Industrial production increased wealth and power in Great Britain. Railroads made it easier for people to get from one place to another. Companies could also transfer more goods.
