The Iron Age began in 1,200 B.C.E and ended in 550 B.C.E. This was shortly after the discovery of Iron. It had two sections, Iron 1 (1,200 - 1000 B.C.E) and Iron 2 (1,000-550 B.C.E). It predominately occurred in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
The Iron Age was called the Iron Age because during this time, iron was used to make tools and weapons.
The Celts were the first to discover and use iron. They initially found it north of the Alps, then later in England. They wanted to use it for their military. When they started using the iron to make their weapons, they won countless battles due to the durability.
The people in the Iron Age lived very different lives than we do today. In the domestic life of the Iron Age, the men would farm and take care of the animals. The women would gather food for the family and take care of the children. The daughters would learn from the mothers. The sons would learn from the fathers. During their leisure time, the women would make blankets, pottery, and jewelry while the men would hunt and gather food, teaching their sons to do the same. The children would play with slingshots and board games. The people would use animal skins, wool, leather, and linen to make their clothes. The poor people would wear animal skins and wool. Their shoes were made completely of leather, which would cause the soles to wear easily. The rich would wear linens and shoes made of leather with wooden bottoms so it would last longer.
There was only two main religions during the Iron Age. One of them was Judaism. The other one was a Celtic religion that had over 400 gods and goddesses.
The main crops grown were spelts, barley, oats, and wheat. The most common livestock were cattle and sheep, due to their wool, hide, and food products.
